– The Lumina LED light-frame system now being marketed
by Emco Bau is a new product for the entrance areas of buildings.
The manufacturer is thus expanding its range of products in
the high-quality entrance mat segment to include an illuminated
mat frame. This, it says, may be used both in inside and outside
areas and marks out the entrance area with light-points arranged
linearly on both sides along its length. "The light-frame
offers architects and planners further design options for
quality entrance settings and gives buildings an individual,
exclusive tone right at the point of entry," is how Jochen
Holzapfel, Emco Bau's chief executive officer, describes the
advantages of the new product.
Besides the aesthetic
aspect, an illuminated entrance mat surround also has a functional
significance, he says. The light-points guide the visitor
into the building and over the entrance mat. In this way the
light-frame assists effective cleaning right at the point
of entry to the building and so ensures an attractive, clean
entrance area.
The light system
is based on white light-emitting diodes (LEDs) fitted inside
the frame. The light generated by the diodes is emitted outwards
through a series of circular holes in the surface of the frame,
producing the linearly arranged light-points. The holes, which
have a diameter of 14 mm, are standardly spaced 55.6 mm apart
and are covered with transparent caps.
The light-frame
consists of a base profile and a LED holding frame profile
of natural-coloured anodised aluminium. Fastened to the holding
frame profile are LEDs enclosed in transparent watertight,
impact-resistant plastic. The electrical fitting of the light
assembly conforms to International Protection Class IP 66.
The holding frame profile is clicked into the base profile
at the side and the LED technology so enclosed inside it.
The light-frame thus assembled has an upper edge of 30 mm,
a lower edge of 52 mm and a height of 25 mm. The dimensions
are designed to enable the frame system to be combined with
all the entrance mats having an assembly height of 22 mm manufactured
by the Lingen company.
The frame is available
with ready-installed LED technology in profile lengths of
up to 3.50 m and including a transformer for 12 or 24 V. On
site all that is required is installation of the fully preassembled
light-frame in the floor. Connection to the electricity supply
must be done by a specialist. The transformer is not subject
to any type of protection and can therefore be installed only
in a housing inside the building. Because of the electrical
leads the frame is not retrofittable and is therefore particularly
suitable for new buildings and radical reconstructions.
The LED technology
has a service life of up to 100,000 hours, which means continuous
operation for over 11 years. The system is thus practically
maintenance free. All the same, thanks to the two-part frame
design the light assembly can later be replaced quickly and
easily at any time.
